Frequently Asked Questions

I work with teenagers and adults of all ages. In my career, I’ve worked with clients between ages 10 to 75 and have enjoyed working with them all! I currently focus my practice primarily with ages 13 to 25, but I am more than happy to speak with you if you (or your child) fall outside of that age range, as we may still be a good fit to work together.

I primarily help people with concerns related to anxiety, perfectionism, self-harm, and dealing with life transitions. For example, many of my clients are transitioning into high school or college, moving away from home for the first time, having children, getting married, or going through divorce. All of these transitions in life have an impact on our identity and how we feel about ourselves, and sometimes they can be overwhelming.

First and foremost, you can expect a warm, welcoming environment free from judgment. Your therapist will explain every process as you go throughout therapy, but primarily you’ll engage in a few phases of therapy:
(1) Assessment, Treatment Planning, and Rapport Building
(2) Therapeutic Interventions, Techniques, and Practice
(3) Reassessment and Closure

My primary approach to therapy is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (“ACT” for short), which is an evidence-based treatment that can help you get clarity on what matters to you and learn to make meaningful choices in your life.
I also use a mixture of therapeutic approaches and treatment protocols to support various concerns – the specific approaches I use with you will be highly dependent on your situation, learning style, and needs.
I use skills and concepts from:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
I am also trained in and use the following treatment protocols when appropriate:
Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma

There is no specific timeline to therapy, but most of my clients work with me anywhere from 3 months to over a year, depending on specific needs and goals. Frequency of treatment matters, too. Clients who attend therapy on a weekly basis meet their goals much faster than clients who come less often. I usually recommend that we start off with weekly one-hour sessions, then transition to less frequent sessions as you begin meeting some of your treatment goals.

Yes! I am in network with several insurance companies including United Healthcare, UMR, Surest, Optum, Oscar, Golden Rule, First Choice, Aetna, and Meritain. Please reach out to me or directly to your insurance plan to confirm that I am in network with your specific plan.
-
The out of pocket rate for therapy is $180 for initial assessment and $150 for each 55-minute session following the assessment.
If you are using insurance benefits, your cost of therapy will depend on your specific insurance plan. You can contact me or reach out directly to your insurance company to verify your benefits.
-
If I don’t take your insurance, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement from your insurance using Out of Network benefits. Contact your insurance plan to confirm your eligibility for these benefits. In these cases, you would pay out of pocket for services, then receive a “superbill” from me, which is a document you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.
If you don’t have insurance, you would pay out of pocket directly for services. Please contact me if you have any concerns about the cost of treatment.

Not always. If you are using insurance benefits, insurance companies almost always require a covered diagnosis to be present in order for them to cover the cost of treatment. If you are paying for treatment out of pocket (not using insurance), a diagnosis may not be necessary or appropriate depending on your specific set of symptoms or circumstances.
Therapy can be extremely beneficial even if you don’t meet the specific criteria for any mental health diagnosis. Diagnoses are often a set of specific symptoms or impairments, but I’m here to help you regardless whether your personal challenges fit inside a diagnostic box.

At Meadowlight Counseling, I have made a commitment never to use generative AI in the course of treatment or in relation to client information. While some providers find AI tools very useful for dictation, documentation, or treatment planning, I have chosen to complete these tasks using traditional methods.
